**The following categories of candidates shall be allowed to opt for the paper of Punjabi (Basic Knowledge) in lieu of Punjabi (Compulsory) in B.A./B.Sc. related courses.

Candidates who have passed their Matriculation examination from Schools/Institutions situated outside the State of Punjab, may be allowed to take up the subject of Punjabi (Basic Knowledge) in lieu of Punjabi (Compulsory)

Candidates who have passed their Matriculations examination from a School/Institutions of Punjab will not be allowed to take up the subject of Punjabi (Basic Knowledge) in lieu of Punjabi Compulsory at the graduate level. This clause will not apply to students covered by clause No. 3 given below :

Children of Defence/Para Military Personnel (Serving as well as retired) will be allowed to take up the subject of Punjabi (Basic Knowledge), provided the father or the mother/guardian (In case father is deceased) of the candidate gives an affidavit that the candidate has not studied Punjabi at School level.
